How to Create Sustainable Healthcare: A Guide for Healthcare Providers

How to make your healthcare more eco-friendly, socially responsible, and financially viable.

Sustainable healthcare is not only good for the environment, but also for the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve. As healthcare providers, we have a responsibility to integrate environmental, social, and fiduciary considerations into our practices and policies, and to support healthy, equitable, and resilient environments and communities over time.

But how can we create sustainable healthcare?

Here are some strategies that we have adopted and implement at Akkadian Health:

  • Improve energy efficiency in our physical practice facilities and operations, by using renewable energy sources, natural light, installing LED lights, and optimising ventilation systems.

  • Reduce waste and pollution in our processes and products, by minimising single-use plastics, recycling materials (such as paper), and using green cleaning products.

  • Promote health and well-being among our staff and patients, by providing mental health support, fostering a positive work culture, and engaging in health promotion and prevention activities.

  • Innovate and adopt new technologies and practices that improve the quality and efficiency of our service delivery, such as telehealth, digital health, and artificial intelligence (AI).

By following these strategies, we can create sustainable healthcare that benefits us, our patients, and our environment.
